• Cover - Cover is operative whilst the insured persons are performing their duties as Marshals under the auspices of the British Motor Racing Marshals’ Club or the British Motorsport Marshals’ Club at both approved and non-approved events and including whilst attending overseas events, training events, other events and committee meetings; cover shall include direct travel to and from such events
• Geographical Limits – Worldwide, excluding Afghanistan, Chechnya, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Israel (Gaza and West Bank only) and Somalia
• **Upper Age Limit – Increased from 80 years of age to 85 years of age at our request
• Temporary Total Disablement – Remains at £100 per week for 104 weeks but for anyone not in regular gainful employment at the time of the incident, the benefit period reduces to 26 weeks (This seems a new industry standard; everyone we approached imposed the same condition; I suspect the old rule may have been subject to some abuse)
• Temporary Total Disablement – We now have a 7 day deferment period (Again, this seems to be a new industry standard; we were quoted 14 days but negotiated down to 7 days)
• **Temporary Partial Disablement – A new benefit; benefit is £50 per week; other conditions as above
• **Personal Effects – For the first time, we have cover for personal property damaged as part of a personal injury incident, up to £250 in value
• Medical Expenses – Necessary medical expenses incurred as the part of a personal injury incident are allowable, up to £750, if not covered by other insurance
• **Other Medical Help – There are other allowances paid if a member is hospitalised as the result of a personal injury incident, and for any period spent in a coma
• **Ancillary Death Benefits – In the unfortunate circumstances of a death, the policy provides for help with funeral expenses and there is further help with dependant children or dependant adults
• **Permanent Total Disablement – The policy provides help with retraining, home modification expenses, childcare and chauffeur services, partner training in the case of anyone adjudged to be permanently totally disabled as the result of a personal injury sustained while marshalling
** New or substantially improved benefit
SCHEDULE OF BENEFITS
This is, of necessity, the Club’s précis of cover provided (The documentation runs to 30 pages!). Any claims submitted are subject to assessment at the time by the Insurer. That said, we have not had a bona fide claim turned down in over 30 years.
Attractive as the benefits may seem, please keep safe! Our aim is to be claim free, with none of our members injured!
Hopefully, we will not need to claim; let’s aim to be injury free!
Regards,
George Copeland
