As the circuit racing season was about to get under way it looks like COVID-19 has decided that we can’t participate in our hobby in the way that we would normally.
Unsurprisingly following the most recent (16 March 2020) advice from the UK Government a number of meetings and events are being cancelled or postponed. Motorsport UK have announced today (17 March 2020) that they are suspending all organising permits and Certificates of Exemption until at least 30 April 2020 (https://www.motorsportuk.org/motorsport-uk-covid-19-update/)
The health and wellbeing of spectators, competitors and officials is paramount and guidelines need to be adhered to. Events are also potentially looking beyond this date and making their own decisions to cancel / postpone their events.
At BMMC we have been monitoring events closely and ask that all volunteers respect the decisions being made by event organisers and follow their advice accordingly.
We will endeavour to keep track of events as they are updated through the volunteering database, MailChimp and Social media outlets accordingly. Obviously we need to ensure the news is verified and from an agreed source before publishing information.
If for reasons of self-isolation following the Government advice you are unable to attend an event please ensure that the Chief Marshal is notified at your earliest opportunity – this could be crucial in helping organisers make decisions for some smaller events for example.
In these difficult times please continue to follow official guidance and take necessary precautions if you have potentially been exposed to the illness to ensure you are protecting everyone else. (https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/).
We will continue to support all our members as we are able and will be offering a few updates, tips and ideas over the coming weeks where we feel relevant.
