On Sunday 7th May we will be holding our “MG Showcase Classic & Sports Car Gala” at Cowdray House in Midhurst, West Sussex.
It’s shaping up to be a terrific event, with over five hundred British classic and sports cars of many different marques, some dating back to the 1930s.
To ensure a safe and pleasant event for everyone, we need marshals to help on the day, guiding attendees into parking spaces, and directing traffic on the Cowdray estate.
We’d be most grateful to any of your members who would volunteer their time on the day (minimum 3 hours) to join our team.
(We will arrange the rotas to ensure that all volunteers have time to enjoy the event.)
Marshals will have
FREE entry to the event (normally £29 for classic car entrants).
Full briefing and instructions
1.5 hour shifts
Water & welfare provided
Covered marshals’ stations with seats
First aid support provided by St John Ambulance operatives
Professional fire support from Event Fire & Rescue operatives
The event will feature live music throughout the day, including jazz, a brass band, and a 1940s vocal harmony group, and there will also be stalls to browse, along with food and refreshments.
So, anyone volunteering for half a day will still be able to enjoy all the above …for FREE !
Full details of the event can be found at www.showcase-classic-cars.events

First of all I would like to say a big thank you for everyone who attended our training day Sunday 12th March . As many of you were aware this was my first venture into organising such an event as the training coordinator and despite some issues with the timetable and getting the right modules covered I am thoroughly impressed with you, the marshals, for your support and your patience and I am pleased with how the day progressed and what we achieved.
As we all know drivers can’t go motor racing without us marshals and you are a very important cog in the big motorsport machine. It was refreshing to see so many of you with an open mind, imparting your huge wealth of experience to me and the other marshals and it was great to see some attendance from marshals who are primarily involved in rallying and I think we all managed to learn something of each other.
I will take all of the comments, questions and concerns to the MSA and any response given either to myself or Wendi as our chairperson will of course be fed back to you.
If you do wish to discuss anything else that happened on the day then please get in touch at sw.training@marshals.co.uk.
Thank you all for your support.

BMMC Volunteering Web Page
For those of you that are not aware, there is an electronic volunteering system set up on the BMMC web pages. This system provides you, the member, the opportunity to take control of your own volunteering for events, you wish to marshal for in the coming season. Your regional volunteering coordinator will have populated the pages for the SW Region with as many motorsport events as possible. This includes, circuit racing, speed, rally and karting events within the region. Volunteering coordinators for all the other regions will have done the same. So you the member should be able to volunteer for any event put onto the site throughout the country.
The primary use for this, is so the member can see what events are available and use the contact information to enable the member to volunteer directly to the organising club.
The site will have ;
A, The events listed in each region
B, the contact details of the chief marshals.
C, Details of the events, like cut off dates, signing on details ect.
The member can then use the organising clubs own electronic volunteering pages ( BARC and Castle Combe ) have these. I would encourage the member to volunteer using that route.
There is the facility to request insurance only cover on the event page. You need to click on (volunteered directly to the organising club). This will show on the system and will give you the extra cover that the BMMC insurance gives you.
I can hear you now saying; why do I need to do this when I get insurance cover from the MSA when I volunteer for any motorsports events?
The reason being the BMMC insurance covers you from leaving home and travelling to the event and then home again. The MSA insurance only covers you while you are at the event. So it’s well worth doing.
The member can also print out their own personal event calendar from the site as a reminder. There is also a link to an events calendar for your electronic gadget or phone, which will enable you to set reminders.
Just follow the link from the BMMC web site to get to the volunteering pages, set up your account and you are away. There is an online help guide to help when you have set up and logged on. With a frequent questions section to help as well. I know there are some of you who are not computer friendly and will still wish to stay with paper forms only. The regional volunteering coordinator will still hold paper insurance only forms, so don’t despair.

Who we are
Hoddesdon Kart Club has held its meetings at Rye House in Hertfordshire since 1961 and
has been acknowledged as probably one of the most technical tracks in the country. And as
one of the older tracks it is one that requires driver commitment and through that effort come
rewards, Hamilton, Button, Davidson and Coulthard all cut their teeth here and even today
David Coulthard describes it as the Silverstone of karting.
The Club is currently undergoing a major overhaul and our grid sizes are growing month by
month. We run our monthly club meeting on the third Sunday of every month with September
seeing our flagship event “The London Cup” which is run over two days.
See www.hoddesdonkc.com for more information about the club.
What we are looking for
As our grid sizes are increasing we have a need to increase our current team of flag
marshals, incident marshals and driving standards observers. You don’t need to have any
previous kart marshalling experience as our team will offer you all the assistance and training
required.
The goal is to build a solid, reliable team of marshals who will grow alongside the club and
ensure our competitors can continue to compete in a safe and fair environment.
Where we are
Rye House Kart Raceway, Rye Road, Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire. EN11 0EH
