Chairman Nadine’s February Bulletin
A year of celebration ahead!
This year the British Motorsports Marshals’ Club celebrates our 60th anniversary. The official formation date of the club was 16 June 1957 at the Queens Hotel in Birmingham. Originally the club was formed by representatives of various motor sports clubs with a view to making motor sport safer.
We still hold this view and through our Vision 2020 the Directors of the club agree that our aim is ‘Making Marshals Matter’. We want to be the club of choice for UK motorsports marshals. To recruit and provide training, benefits and representation for them, and to develop motorsport marshalling for the benefit of all.
In our celebratory year the Directors of the club have made the decision that we will not be holding one single event to commemorate our anniversary. We understand that some of our membership may be disappointed with this decision having enjoyed such events in the past. However, instead each region will be holding events and occasions, as decided by your Regional committees, which will enable all of our members to participate without incurring substantial expense in the process. So keep your eyes peeled for Regional announcements detailing the specifics throughout the year.
As the sixth Chairman of our club I think it is important to look to the future, embrace change and use technology to our best advantage – lead not follow. However I also believe it is important to remember our beginnings, pay respect to our past and use the wisdom learned to create forward thinking pathways.
Over the coming year I would like to be able to share some of our history via the website and also acknowledge our members both past and present who have contributed to our success and continue to support us and motorsport across the board. (If you think you might fit into this bracket please get your thinking caps on and keyboards at the ready to pen a short resume for me – I will be in touch!)
In terms of a tangible gift to celebrate our Diamond anniversary milestone you will all be eagerly anticipating our goodie bag. Apologies for the slight delay in these arriving. I have it on good authority that the courier is in readiness and shipments should commence later next week. We will send you a further email to advise when despatched.
We have our first Council meeting of the year next weekend and I look forward to discussing our Directors and Non-Executives aims and objectives for the year – for us all. We will be publishing these in due course but in the meantime I hope you are getting out and about – attending training days and volunteering on events.
