Chairman Nadine’s March Bulletin

Posted on in From the Chair

Last week I was away from home with work but watching with interest the comments on Social Media as the goodie bags started to arrive.  On returning home on Friday I was pleased to see that ours had also been delivered.

And aren’t they great?!  A huge thank you to Eric and Colin for putting the items together and ensuring their despatch – great effort guys!  There’s been a few hiccups along the way but a big percentage of members should have received their goodie bags by now.

For those of you not in the first deliveries I hope you can hold your anticipation until they arrive – during this month.  You may well have seen the pictures of the contents already but so that you know what to expect they include the following items:  60 year woven badge, sponsors badges, Ginetta peak cap, travel mug, marshal model, NGK lanyard and trolley token.

Lots of fabulous comments about the star item – our ‘model marshal with a surprise’ (try taking it apart!).  For those of you not aware Jim Bamber was a British artist and editorial cartoonist specialising in motorsport.  He is best known for his motor racing related caricatures which incorporate his distinctive driver designs, that adorned issues of Autosport magazines as well as his annual compilation of cartoons from the magazine called The Pits.  Jim was a friend of the marshals club and often created supporting cartoons for us.  I am honoured to own a cartoon reflecting my receipt of the Marshal of the Year award in 2009 – a treasured possession.  Jim Bamber died of cancer on 20 June 2014 at the age of 65.

Thanks to Ginetta, Polyfloor, Autosport and NGK for their support with the goodie bags.  Also I need to recognise a few donations the club has received which have been put towards these mementoes.  The Formula Junior Historic Racing Association held a motoring auction in December to raise funds from amongst their members and subsequently made a donation to the BMMC.  The Production BMW and Toyota Tires Racing Saloon championship (under the combined name of Project 8 Racing) also held an auction and generously donated the proceeds to the BMMC.  We appreciate their support and look forward to seeing them racing this year.

If you unfortunately find any items are missing or damaged in the goodie box please contact Colin Barnes on Nat.Treasurer@marshals.co.uk – who will endeavour to replace items accordingly.  Please note that the despatch exercise has shown that a number of our members have not updated their personal details on the database – notably change of residential address and email address. Please take this as a timely reminder that you can update your details at any time via the volunteering website to ensure you don’t miss out on future communications.
